How To Use TritonWear In Swim Racing
Using TritonWear during meets can help you understand your swimmers' performance in unprecedented detail. But to get the most meaningful insights, there are a few important things to know before you start.
🤓 Swimmers should use TritonWear consistently for at least 28 days before introducing it to racing.
Why? TritonWear learns each swimmer’s stroke, pace, and habits over time. A solid training profile ensures that race data is accurate and meaningful, so you can truly understand how they performed compared to their typical trends.
Can I Use TritonWear in Competitions?
Yes. In 2023, World Aquatics (formerly FINA) approved certain swim trackers for use in racing, provided they do not send signals, sounds, or feedback to swimmers during competition.
TritonWear's Triton unit is on the approved list. This means you can legally track races at sanctioned meets.

Getting Ready for Race Day
Follow these best practices to ensure smooth tracking and quality data:
-
Keep It Charged
Charge your Triton units and iPad fully before the meet, and maybe toss a few chargers in your bag, just in case. -
Consider Skipping Warm Up
If the warm-up and race pools are set up differently (e.g., one runs north-south and the other east-west), skip tracking warm-ups or cooldowns. This avoids funky data that doesn’t match the race setup. -
Start Early, Keep It Rolling
Once you get to the pool, start a “workout” in the app and let it run for the whole swim meet (up to 5 hours). This way, you capture everything without needing to fiddle with it mid-meet. -
Placement Is Everything
Swimmers should wear their unit the same way every time. Consistency here means better data later. -
Know Your Race Lengths
Super short sprint races (think 50m) can be hit-or-miss for tracking since there’s less time for the unit to calibrate. You’ll get the best data from 200m races and up. -
Check the Data After Each Race
Post-race data is pure gold for figuring out what worked (and what didn’t). Use those insights to tweak race strategies or training plans. -
